Totally Sweet Pufferfish Tank!



Since Jefferson P. Fish, this website's namesake, passed away in the summer of 2003, I have felt a large void in my life that could only be filled by pufferfish. I knew it would be very difficult to find another member of Jeff's species, so I opted for a cute little Figure 8 Puffer, who I named Frank. Frank is pretty much as large as he will get. His species has been known to live as long as 18 years in captivity. Here's to a long and happy life!

Brackish water snail I caught at the mouth of the Mississippi River.

We caught a whole bunch and we ate all but two.

They were delicious, but very small.

Here you can make out the radula, the sharp raspy thingy with which he scrapes the glass for food.

More mollusca; these came from Lake Pontchartrain.

Java fern can adapt to brackish conditions.

This hardy anubias should also be able to take it. The mussel is actually attatched to the plant.
